Most pioneers traveled in wagon trains with their families and other settlers, banding together for defense and to spread the workload. Pioneers in the East often had to clear the land, owing to lush forests there.
Pioneers were men, women, and children who started new lives on the U.S. frontier in the 1800s. After a long journey from the East, they built simple homes and small farms.

Pioneers is a Christian missions organization focused on church planting among unreached people groups. It was founded by former Wall Street Journal National Sales Manager Ted Fletcher in 1979 and has offices in Orlando, Florida, Australia, Ghana, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, Singapore, and Brazil.
By 1958, community service was established as the Pioneers' "New Tradition". Today, the organization is the world's largest group of industry-specific employees and retirees dedicated to community service.
